Detailed list of carpentry services:
Be sure your contractor is licensed:
Hire only a licensed contractor. When a contractor is licensed they are approved by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Development.
Be sure your contractor is bonded and insured:
This protects both you the homeowner/property owner and your financial investment in your real estate, in the event the contractor damages your property or belongings. This also protects you in the event the contractor cannot complete his obligations listed in your contract.
Be sure your contractor is experienced:
Ask the type of education, training and number of years in trade. Also ask what areas are strong points and weaknesses. Make sure this company has had the proper experience with your type of project.
Equipment:
Ask the contractor if they have the necessary equipment and tools to complete the work. The equipment should also be used in a safe environment so no damage will be done to your project or injury to the workers.
Get a Contract Agreement:
Make certain that you receive a written contract specifying what work is included, and which items or labor are excluded in your contract.
Get Estimates:
Be sure to obtain at least three estimates. If you find huge price differences find out why. What could be missing in the lower price? See if they are Licensed, Bonded and Insured.
Choosing the right contractor:
This could be one of the most important decisions you are about to make - almost as important as when you bought your home. Keep in mind this individual will be in your home, around your family and animals. Will they give you references?
